Monaghan in Southern Ulster and Co. Louth in the north - east of Northern Leinster in the kingdom of Orghialla / Airghialla / Oriel. Especially see - O Kelledy.

O Kanavaghan - Irish / Ua Connmhachain. A Heberian Cianachta Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Sligo in the north - west of the Connacht Province who were kinsmen to the O Haras, which see. Now corrupted to O Conway and O Convey. Ancestors - *87.Cormac “Gailsang,” *86.Teague / Tadhg mac Cian, *85.Cian (Cianachta), *84.Ailill "Oluimm" the 1st King of Munster.

O Kane or O Cahan or O Keane - Irish / Ua Cathain - cath / battle. An important Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Dal Cuinn "Northern" Ui Niaill Cenel nEogain Clan Drugan Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in the east of Co. Donegal in the north - west of the Ulster Province, in Co. Derry in the north - east of Ulster and Co. Tyrone in Central Southern Ulster. They were Princes in Co. Derry and Kings and Chiefs in Co. Antrim in the north - east of the Ulster Province. They eventually became the Chiefs of Keenaught / Cianacht and they built an Augustinian monastery at Dungiven and had their stronghold at Limavady in Co. Derry overlooking the River Roe south of the town. Their original territory was at Laggan in the east of Co. Donegal where they settled in the Coleraine / Derry area. They were a leading Sept in Ulster up until the Confiscation of the 3,500,000 acres of the Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Dal Cuinn "Northern" Ui Niaill territories by the English in the early 17th Century AD and the non - Catholic Plantations there. All of the Irish Septs there were then driven off above the 600' level to starve to death and just like so many of the other Irish Families they only survived as a Gaelic Milesian Sept until the 17th Century AD under the continuing English ethnic and religious oppression. The last of their Chiefs was to die in the Tower of London in 1628 AD. The Mac Closkeys and Mac Avinneys are two of their Ui Cathain Septs. Mac Kane or Mac Kain. Used as variants for the Scottish name, Mac Kean. Not connected to the Mac Keanes in Co. Clare in the north - west of the Munster Province.

Mac Kangley or Mac Tighe, which see - Irish / Mheic Ceanglaigh. A Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Cavan in Southern Ulster.

Kavanagh - Irish / Caomhanach - caomh / gentle. A Heremonian Ui Laoghaire Ui Lughaidh  Cu Corb Ui Cheinnselaig Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in the north of Co. Wexford and Co. Carlow in the south - east of Southern Leinster. They were a leading Sept of the *Mac Murroughs, which see, Tuath / Family region who are descended from *92.Enda / Enna "Cennsalach" the 2nd King of Leinster who was the direct ancestor of the Ui Cheinnselaig Sept in the 5th Century AD. They are one of the few Irish Families without an "O" or a "Mac" prefixing their name due to their immediate direct ancestor, *112.Donnell "Caomhanach" who was fostered by a successor to St. Caomhain and he took up his name instead. *112.Donnell "Caomhanach" was the illegitimate son of the infamous *111.Dermott Mac Murrough "na nGall" - of the Foreigners the 59th King of Leinster prior to the Anglo - Norman Invasion who was also responsible for bringing them into Ireland in the first place in the late 12th Century AD. (Art Mac Murrough Kavanagh was a King of Leinster who died in 1418 AD.) Like most of the other Irish Gaelic Milesian Septs they only survived as such until the start of the 17th Century AD when their territories too were also Confiscated and Planted with Foreign non - Catholics by the English. Their last inaugurated Chief was Brian Kavanagh (The Mac Murrough,") while "The Mac Murrough Kavanagh" was William Butler Kavanagh. They are also kinsmen to the Kinsellas whose surname is derived from the Ui Cheinnselaig Family name. Their ancestor *92.Enda / Enna "Cennsalach" the 2nd King of Leinster was also the direct ancestor of the following early Septs, the Ui Felmeda, the Fir Thulach Mide and the Siol nEladaig. He was descended from *86.Cu "Corb" the direct ancestor of all the Heremonian Ui Laoghaire Kings of Leinster. Their line of descent passed through his son, *87.Niadh "Corb,"the direct ancestor of the Dal Niad Cuirp Septs, *88.Corbmac "Gelta Gaeth," *89.Felim / Feidlimid "Fer Aurglas," *90.Cahir / Cathair "Mor" the 109th King of Tara / Ireland in the early 2nd Century AD. Then through his son, *91.Fiachu "Ba hAiccid" - the Lame, *92.Bressal "Belach" the 1st King of Leinster, his son, *93.Labraid "Laidech," who became the father of *94.Enna "Cennsalach" the 2nd King of Leinster (Ui Cheinnselaig). The Ui Cheinnselaig Sept are kinsmen also to the following Cu Corb Septs in the Leinster Province, the Ui Mail, the Ui Theig, the Ui Chellaig Cualann, the Dal Cormaic, the Dal Cairpre, the Dal Messin Corb, the Ui Garrchon, the Ui Failge, the Ui Bairrche, the Ui Crimthainn, the Ui Enechglais, the Ui Buide, the Crich na Cetach, the Ui Briuin Cuallan and the Ui Drona. Initially descended in Ireland from *37.Heremon (Heremonians) their line descends through *59.Ugaine the Great the 66th Heremonian King of Tara / Ireland who ruled for 40 years until he was killed in 593 BC. (He was a contemporary of Alexander the Great and was married to Ceasair the daughter of the Celtic King of the Gauls.

Mac Kavanagh. Used as a variant for Mac Cavana, which see, in Co. Antrim in the north - east of the Ulster Province. See also - Keaveney and Keevan. Not connected to the Heremonian Ui Laoghaire Ui Cheinnselaig Mac Murrough Kavanaghs in Co. Wexford and Co. Carlow in Southern Leinster. Patrick Kavanagh (1904 - 1967) the writer was born at Inishkeen / Inis Caoin / Pleasant Island in Co. Monaghan in the south of the Ulster Province.
