Holland. English toponymic. Used in Co. Limerick in the mid - north - west of the Munster Province as an abbreviated form for Mulholland, which see. Used also in Co. Clare in the north - west of Munster as a synonym for O Holohan, which see. See also Holian. John Holland the inventor of the submarine was born at Liscannor in Co. Clare.

Holt (a wood). English origins. They were in Ireland in 1295 AD and in Co. Cork in Southern Munster in the 14th Century AD and later in the Ulster Province. Joseph Holt was one of the leaders of the United Irishmen in 1798 AD who was transported to Australia to become by default involved in the Battle for Vinegar Hill there.
