O Hampson, or Hamsey - An English name used by the O Hansons - Irish - Ua hAmhsaigh who had their territory in Co. Derry in the north - east of the Ulster Province to anglicize their name. An earlier\ form was O Hampsey now still in use in the north of Ulster as Hamsey.

Hampton - English toponymic origins - They were in Ireland in the 14th Century AD.

Hampton - Those in Co. Down in the south - east of the Ulster Province came into Ireland in the 17th Century AD during the ethnic and religious cleansing under James 1st and the Confiscation and Ascendancy Plantation of the Northern Ui Niaill territories there.

O Hanafin - Irish - Ua hAinbhtin - Ua hAinifin - ainbioth - storm. A Sept - Family branch who had their territory in Co. Kerry in the south - west of the Munster Province. Cognate with Hanvey in the west of Co. Cork in Southern Munster.

Hanagan - See Hannigan.

O Hanahan - Irish - Ua hAnnachain. A Sept - Family branch who had their territory in Co. Limerick in the north - west of the Munster Province. Many also changed to Hannon.

O Hanahoe or Hanahy - Irish - Ua hEanchadha. A Clerical Sept - Family branch who had their territory in the north of Co. Mayo in the mid - west of the Connacht Province in the diocese of Killala. May also be cognate with Heanue, which see.

O Hanaty or Hannerty - See Hennarty.

Hanbury or Hambery - Irish - Ua hAinmhire / ainmire - freedom from levity / mire - madness. A Sept - Family branch who had their territory in Co. Galway in Southern Connacht & Co. Clare in the north - west of the Munster Province Ansboro used as a synonym in Co. Galway and Hambrogh & Hambrock used in Co. Mayo in the mid - west of Connacht.

Hand - English origins. Used for Claffey, Mac Clave, Glavy & Lavan, which see, as their Irish names were confused with hand - lamh.

O Handlon - Used as a variant for O Hanlon, which see.

Handrick - See Henrick.

O Haneen or Henheen - Irish - Ua hAinchin. A Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Maine Siol Anmchadha Clerical Sept - Family branch who had their territory in Co. Clare in the north west of the Munster Province & Co. Galway in Southern Connacht. Sometimes also changed to Hannon. Ancestor *80.Conn of the Hundred Battles.

Hanger - Henry Hare became Lord Coltraine who was a maternal nephew of Gabriel Hanger who left no issue and whose father was the original Lord Coltraine. In 1817 AD George Hanger, Gabriel’s brother, also died, and Henry Hare who was still only a child claimed the title to become Lord Coltraine in his own right. In 1824 March 31st at 73 year old he also died leaving no heir. The title was revived 100 years later by Bonar Law in England.

O Hangley - Used as a variant for O Hanley, which see, in Co. Roscommon in Eastern Connacht Province.

O Hanify or Hanfey - Used as variants for Hanvey, which see.

Hankard - A variant used for the Norman name, Tancred, which see, and elsewhere anglicized as Tankard. They have been in the south - east of Co. Cork in Southern Munster since the 16th Century AD and Gaelicized their name as na hAncardaih.

O Hanley or Hanly or Handly - Irish - Ua hAinle - ainle - beauty. An important Sept - Family branch who had their territory in Co. Roscommon in Eastern Connacht. One of their branches migrated to Co. Cork in Southern Munster. O Hanley used in the Heberian Dal gCais kingdom of Ormond in Co. Tipperary in the north - east of the Munster Province may be a different Sept. See also Jago.

O Hanlon - Irish - Ua hAnluain - luan - champion. A very important Heremonian Dal Cuinn 3 Colla Sept - Family branch who had their territory in Co. Armagh in the south - east of the Ulster Province - (Orier). They were the Kings of Orior prior to the Confiscation of the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Northern Ui Niaill territories in Ulster in the early 17th Century AD and the ethnic and religious cleansing of the Irish and the Ascendancy Plantations there by James 1st. Their fortress was at Tanragee. Recently they were also in the west of thw Munster Province. Ancestor 80.Conn of the Hundred Battles.
