O Hagan or O Aiken - Irish / Ua hAgain. Originally O hOgain - Og - the Younger. They were an important Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Dal Cuinn "Northern" Ui Niaill Cenel nEogain Cenel Fergusa Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Upper Dungannon and were the Chiefs of Tullahogue / Tulach Og (Hill of the Younger) in Co. Tyrone in Central Ulster. They had the right, along with the O Kanes - Irish / Ui Cathain to inaugurate the "Northern" Ui Niaill Cenel nEogain Kings on their Sacred Inauguration Mound at the Rath of Tullyhogue in the Ulster Province. Originally the Cenel Fergusa had their territory at Coleraine in Co. Derry in the north - east of Ulster, but by the 11th Century AD they had their fort at Tullyhogue, which remained their main seat well after the "Northern" Ui Niaill Cenel nEogain main Sept was also to transfer to Dungannon in Co. Tyrone in the 13th Century AD. The burial place for all of the O Hagans was at Donaghrisk across the road from the fort, which was also the site of the Stone of the King / Leac na Ri were the "Northern" Ui Niaill Kings swore to uphold the Brehon Law after a Mass was said by the Primate. AS the main Ui Niaill sub - Chiefs the O Kanes threw a golden sandal over the head of the King and the O Hagans the hereditary guardians placed the shoe on his foot while St. Patrick’s bell was rung. Directly descended through *89.Fergus, a son of *88.Eogan, one of the 8 sons of *87.Niall of the Nine Hostages the 126th King of Tara / Ireland. The last of the Ui Niaill Kings to be inaugurated at Tullyhogue was Hugh "Dubh" O Neill in 1595 AD who had previously been the English appointed Earl of Dungannon and Earl of Tyrone. Elizabeth 1st had taken him along with many of the other young sons of the main Irish Family Septs to re - educate them in England as English non - Catholics to be sent back to Ireland for an English purpose. On re - discovering his true Celtic Irish Catholic identity he carried out one of the six Irish Rebellions against her during her constant ethnic and religious oppressions and nearly succeeded, when allied with his "Northern" Ui Niaill Cenel Conaill kinsman, "Red" Hugh O Donnell who was descended from *88.Eogan’s brother, 88.Conall "Gulban." (The English eventually were to have him poisoned in Spain.) In 1602 AD Elizabeth's 1st's Lord Deputy, Mountjoy destroyed the "Northern" Ui Niaill's Sacred Inauguration Stone  and over the next few years the English also took out Attainders (Off with their Heads) against the main "Northern" Ui Niaill Ulster Chieftains who had been the last Irish Chiefs to survive independently in Ireland. The English then "Confiscated" a further 3,500,000 acres of the "Northern" Ui Niaill territories for non - Catholic Plantations and drove the remaining members of each of the individual "Northern" Ui Niaill Families up above the 600' level to starve to death, who were then also denied any rights under English Common Law. They put in English settlers along the rivers, and the Lowland Scots in behind them, but the "Northern" Ui Niaill Septs nevertheless migrated back to their original Family regions as the English had taken so much territory that their Undertakers could not get enough labor to work all of the land they had Confiscated. The Undertakers then had to put in the Irish as tenants pretending to those in control in England that they did not really exist as such. From 1534 AD until 1869 AD no Catholic Irish man or Irish woman legally existed under English Law in Ireland even though they were still the majority. See also Hogg. Ancestors - *89.Fergus, *88.Eogan the 1st King of Aileach (Cenel nEogain), *87.Niall of the Nine Hostages the 126th King of Tara / Ireland (Ui Niaill).
