Grace - Mac Graney Grace / le Gras / Crassus / Grassagh. Anglo Norman origins. They arrived in Ireland around 1200 AD and were English Barons in Co. Kilkenny in the south - west of Southern Leinster and in "The English Pale" surrounding Dublin in Co. Dublin in the north - east of Southern Leinster along with the Nugents / de Nogents etc. The first of the Graces was a cousin to William Marshall and was appointed the English Seneschal of Leinster. They were also in Co. Laois and Co. Carlow in Southern Leinster and Co. Tipperary in the north - east of the Munster Province. See history 1169 AD.Gracey. Scottish origins - Mac Grade. See - Mac Gread. O Graddy - Irish / Ua Greada - greada / champion. A Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Cork in Desmond / Des Mhumhain / Southern Munster. May also be a synonym of Draddy there.O Grady - Irish / Ua Gradaigh - grada / illustrious. A Heberian Dal gCais Ui Caisin Ui Donghaile Sept / Family branch who were descended from the Irish Chief Gradaigh. As Dalcassians they had their initial territory in the parish of Killonasoolagh Co. Clare in Thomond / Tuaiscert Mhumhain / Northern Munster. 114.Turlough "Mor" O Brian of the Triumphs from the Heberian Dal gCais Ui Bloid Ui Turlough Ui mBriain Sept, assisted by the Heberian Dal gCais Ui Caisin Mac Namaras as his Lord Marshall drove the other Ui Bloid Septs in 1381 AD, including the O Kennedys and O Shanahans. The O Gradys who were close kinsmen to the Ui Caisin Mac Namaras were then granted different territory in Co. Clare at Tomgraney, which subsequently became the Ui Donghaile territory that is now composed of the Parishes of Clonrush, Iniscaltragh, Moynoe and Tomgraney. (Two of these Parishes, Clonrush and Iniscaltragh are now in Co. Galway) The O Gradys of Moynoe, Scarrif and Tomgraney were always subordinate to their immediate Ui Caisin kinsmen the Mac Namaras. The majority of the Families are still there in that territory. Their leading Sept at one time under John O Grady / O Brady was to migrate nearby in Thomond into Co. Limerick, as one of their Septs who where important had changed their name to O Brady in the 16th Century AD. The O Grady Chiefs of Cineal Dongally / Ui Donghaile had territory that was very large, taking in the Barony of Lower Tullagh in Co. Clare, and they were also to have territory in Co. Limerick. In 1309 AD Hugh O Grady set up at Kilballyowen and members of this Sept are still there also as they sided and intermarried with the English in the 16th Century AD. One of their seats was Castle Garde 3 mile north east of Pallas Green in Co. Limerick. In 1311 AD Donnell O Grady who was then the Ui Donghaile Chief was killed in battle by O Brian. In 1408 AD Teige O Grady who was then the Ui Donghaile Chief, died. In 1543 Ad Henry V111 granted Sir Donough O Grady all of his Ui Donghaile Septs' territories personally to serve him. His son, Edmond O Grady was to die in 1567 Ad and leave no heir and the Estates there went Sir Daniel O Brady. In 1582 AD John O Grady / O Brady his son and Hugh Brady were granted Ballyduff, Scariff, Tomgraney etc. with John O Grady / Brady founding the Family in Co. Limerick. In 1586 AD Henry O Grady, the son of Hugh O Grady, relinquished all of what was now his personal property in the Ui Donghaile to Donough O Brien the 4th English appointed Earl of Thomond hoping this would stop the English from confiscation it also. In 1828 a Mr. Brady of Raheen was almost the only non - Catholic in Co. Clare who voted for Daniel O Connell. In 1831 AD Standish O Grady who was the English appointed Chief Baron of the Exchequer in Ireland was created the English Viscount Guillamore in Co. Limerick. The Family were also in Co.
