Mac Gillycuddy - Irish / Mheic Ghiolla Mochuda - Chuda (Descended from a son of the devotee of St. Cuddy) Carrthach - the Loving One. A Heberian Eoghanacht Chaisil O Sullivan "Mor" Sept / Family branch who were originally from Co. Kerry in Iar Mhumhain / South Western Munster who founded the Lismore monastery in Co. Waterford in the south - east of Munster. Allen / Ailinn O Sullivan the Bishop of Cloyne in Co. Kerry became the Bishop of Lismore in Co. Waterford and died there in 1253 AD and because he was so dedicated to St. Mochuda / St. Cuddy his kinsmen eventually took the name of Mac Gilli Cuddy. Conor O Sullivan killed Donnell "Mor" O Sullivan of Beare and in 1563 AD because of this fingal / kin slaying his family descendants became known as *Mac Gillycuddy O Sullivan. From then on they used either Mac Gillycuddy or O Sullivan as their surname. Churchtown in Co. Kerry was their burial place situated on the River Laune where there is an old ruined Catholic Church.
