O Eire. A Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Antrim in the north - east of the Ulster Province.

Eivers. See - Ivers.

Elder / senior. English origins. They were in Co. Derry and nearby in Co. Donegal in the north - west of the Ulster Province.

Mac Elear -

Mac Elderry or Mac Ilderry - Irish / Mheic Giolla Dorcha - dorca / dark. A Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Tyrone in Central Southern Ulster and are now also in Co. Antrim in the north - east of Ulster Province.

Mac Eldowney - Irish / Mheic Giolla Domhnaigh (Descended from a son of the devotee of the Church) A Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Derry in the north - east of the Ulster Province. Mac Gildowney and Muldowney were also used as variants in Co. Down in the south - east of Ulster. See also - Moloney.

Elgee. Lady Wilde / Speranza nee Jane Francesca Elgee (1824 - 1896) was born in Co. Wexford in the south - east of Southern Leinster was the mother of Oscar Wilde and wrote for the Young Ireland  movement in The Nation newspaper.

Ellife or Liffe. Scandinavian English names. Used as variants of Ayliff, which see. They were in Co. Westmeath in the south - west of Northern Leinster.

Mac Elligot. Originally known as Fitz Elias. Cambro - Norman origins. Gaelicized - Irish / Mheic Uileagoid. They have been in Co. Kerry in the south - west of Desmond / Southern Munster since the Mid - 13th Century AD and where still in 1455 AD when some were also known as Fitz Elyoth.

Mac Ellin - Irish / Mheic Ailin. A Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Roscommon in the east of the Connacht Province. Not connected to the Mac Allens who were also there who were a galloglass / mercenary family.

Elliot or Elyot. English origins. Cognate with Ellis. Some came into Ireland earlier, but most came after the Confiscation of the 3,500,000 acres of the Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Dal Cuinn "Northern" Ui Niaill territories by James 1st the French Stuart English King and the Foreign non - Catholic Plantations there in the Ulster Province. They were in Co. Cavan and Co. Fermanagh in Southern Ulster and were later also nearby in Co. Leitrim in Northern Connacht

Ellis / Elias. English origins. They were in Co. Dublin in the north - east of Southern Leinster in 1282 AD who were then known as Elys and are now mainly found in Co. Dublin still and also the Ulster Province.

Ellison. English origins. They came into Ireland in the early 17th Century AD.

Mac Ellistrum. Norman origins. They may be a branch of the Geraldine / Fitz Geralds, which see, who also Gaelicized as Mheic Alastrum in Co. Kerry in the south - west of Desmond / Southern Munster.
