O Carolan - Irish / Ua Caireallain. Chiefs of Clandermod / Glendermod in Co. Derry, A Sept / Family branch, who had their territory at Clondermot in Co. Derry in the north - east of the Ulster Province where they were the Chiefs of  Clann Diarmada, and were also nearby in Co. Tyrone in Central Southern Ulster.

O Carolan - Irish / Ua Cearbhallain. A Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Cavan and Co. Monaghan in Southern Ulster and nearby in Co. Meath in the south - east of Northern Leinster. Turlough O Carolan (1670 - 1738 AD) the most famous of the Irish bards was brought up with the Mac Dermot "Roe" children and their tutor in the Connacht Province, and at 18 years of age contracted smallpox and was blinded. Mrs. Dermot "Roe" gave him a guide and a horse and he set out to traverse the whole of Ireland and came back in his old age to be looked after at Alderford House at Bally Farnan. When he died his funeral was held at Kilronan with 10 harpers and 60 priests in attendance and he was interred at Keadue in Co. Roscommon in the east of the Connacht Province.
