Burnell - French Anglo Norman origins - brun - brown - Similar to Brunell. They have been in Co. Meath & Co. Dublin in the east of the Leinster Province since the 13th Century AD and in Co. Clare in the north - west of the Munster Province since the 16th Century AD. Also sometimes used as a synonym for Bernal, which see.

Burnett - brun - brown. They were in Co. Monaghan in Southern Ulster & Co. Dublin in the north - east of Southern Leinster since the Mid - 17th Century AD.

Mac Burney or Mac Birney - Highland Scottish Norse Gaelic origins - Mheic Biorna. Recent arrivals they were in the north - east of the Ulster Province.

O Burns - Irish - Ua Broin .A Heremonian Ui Laoghaire Cu corb Ui Dunlainge Crioch Branach Sept - Family branch - who had their territory in Co. Kildare & Co. Wicklow in Southern Leinster. See also O Byrne. Ancestor *84.Cu "Corb."

Mac Burns - Mainly of Highland Scottish origins. Gaelic Irish - Mheic Conboirne / burn - stream. They were in the north of the Connacht Province.

Mac Burns - Highland Scottish origins. A Sept of the Campbells, which see. They were in Co. Antrim, Co. Down & Co. Armagh in the east of the Ulster Province.

Mac Burns - The Irish O Byrnes & Mac Brin, which see, used it to anglicize their names also in the Ulster Province.

Burns - Scottish locative name. They were in the Ulster Province and the Munster Province. Used also by the O Beirnes, O Birranes, O Byrnes & Mac Conborneys - Irish - Mheic Conboirne, which see, a Northern Connacht Sept - Family branch.

Busteed - Origins unknown as yet. They were in Co. Cork in Southern Munster since the early 17th Century AD.

Butler - Le Buitleir - Anglo Norman origins - bhuitlearaigh - wine steward. Always well connected to the English Monarchy their ancestor was created the Chief Butler in Ireland after the Anglo - Norman Invasion by Henry 11 in 1171 AD. Gowran in Co. Kilkenny in the south - west of Southern Leinster, the fortress of the Heremonian Ui Laoghaire Connla Ossory Kings was to be given over eventually to Theobold Fitz Walter - Le Buitleir the ancestor of the English Earls of Ormonde. This occurred when the territories of the Irish Families there in Southern Leinster, that had previously been taken over by Strongbow after the Anglo - Norman Invasion were split up. In 1328 AD the main branch of the family became the English Earls of Ormonde and in 1515 AD the English Earls of Ossory and in 1632 AD the Dukes of Ormonde in Co. Kilkenny and the adjoining territory in Co. Tipperary in the north - east of the Munster Province previously the territory of the Heberian Dal gCais Ui Turlough O Kennedys the Kings of Ormond - Eastern Munster - Aur Mumu. In 1566 AD - 1576 AD another Theobold Fitz Walter was also the English 3rd Earl of Cahir, and Kilkenny Castle was then the site of their main fortress. They were also English Barons in Co. Meath in the south - east of Northern Leinster, Co. Carlow in Southern Leinster, Co. Tipperary & Co. Wicklow in the south - east of Southern Leinster. They were also in Co. Laois in the mid - west of Southern Leinster, Co. Waterford in the south - east of the Munster Province and Co. Wexford in the south - east of Southern Leinster. They were English Viscounts in Co. Kilkenny & English Earls in Co. Galway in Southern Connacht. A family branch also Gaelicized their name as Mac Pierce, which see. Their main branch came into greater prominence in 1328 AD when James, the son of Edmund Le Buitleir, became 1st English Earl of Ormonde. In 1338 AD James, the son of James the 1st Earl, became 2nd Earl of Ormonde and in 1382 AD James, the son of James the 2nd Earl, became 3rd Earl of Ormonde. In 1405 AD James, the son of James the 3rd Earl, became 4th Earl of Ormonde and in 1452 AD James, the son of James the 4th Earl, became 5th Earl of Ormonde. In 1461 AD John, the son of James 4th Earl, became 6th Earl of Ormonde and in 1477 AD Thomas, another son of James the 4th Earl also, became 7th Earl of Ormond. Their direct male line then changed after this when in 1515 AD Piers Butler the great - great - grandson of James the 3rd Earl became the 1st Earl of Ossory  and then the 8th Earl of Ormonde. In 1539 AD James, the son of Pierce the 8th Earl, became 9th Earl of Ormonde & 2nd of Ossory. In 1546 AD Thomas, the son of James the 9th Earl, became 10th Earl of Ormonde & 3rd of Ossory and in 1614 AD Walter, the grandson of James the 9th Earl, became the 11th Earl of Ormonde. In 1632 AD James, the grandson of Walter 11th Earl became the 12th Earl and 1st Duke of Ormonde and in 1688 AD James, the grandson of James 1st Duke, became the 13th Earl and 2nd Duke of Ormonde (de jure) & Earl of Ossory. In 1745 AD Charles, another grandson of James 1st Duke became the 14th Earl and 3rd Duke of Ormonde (de jure) & Earl of Arran. In 1758 AD John, the great - great - grandson of Walter 11th Earl became the 15th Earl of Ormonde (de jure). In 1766 AD Walter, another great - great grandson of Walter 11th Earl, became the 16th Earl of Ormonde (de jure). In 1783 AD John, the son of Walter 16th Earl became the 17th Earl of Ormonde. In 1795 AD Walter, the son of John the 17th Earl, became the 18th Earl of Ormonde. In 1820 AD James, another son of John 17th Earl, became the 19th Earl of Ormonde. In 1838 AD John, the son of James 19th Earl became the 20th Earl of Ormonde. 1854 AD James Edward, the son of John 20th Earl became 21st Earl of Ormonde. In 1919 James Arthur, the son of John 20th Earl became the 22nd English Earl of Ormonde until 1943.
