Browne / neale. Gaelicized Irish / Ua Bruen. They were in Co. Mayo in the mid - west of the Connacht Province, and in the church there are 30 of the de Marisco knights whose tombs are in the walls. After the Confiscation of the Catholic Church Institutions and lands in Ireland by Henry V111 the territory there was given to the Browne family who later declared themselves Catholic and were ennobled by James 11 becoming Viscount Kenmare.
