In the 5th Century AD the Heremonian Dal Cuinn "Southern" Ui Niaill Septs encroached on their northern borders and decreased their territory, while the Heremonian Cu Corb Ui Cheinnselaig and Ui Dunlainge Septs were to be their most dominant aristocratic warrior Septs.

Laois (named for him) in the mid - west of Southern Leinster. Their territory took in the Baronies of east and west Maryborough, Stradbally and Cullenagh and later on also included the Baronies of Ballyadams and Slievemargy.
