                                                                                     HORSES - 12

                                                                                          Water

*The Daily requirement in hot weather is 10% of Bodyweight with a 450 kg Horse needing 45 Litres and it must be fresh and clean and the better the quality the better the Nutrition as it transports Nutrients and wastes, controls the pH level and dissipates heat.

*Lack of cleanliness, Automatic water and plastic buckets can cause Horses not to drink enough water.

*Plastic is not inert and will contaminate water making it unpalatable so clean buckets and tubs regularly. To test any plastic container, fill it with water and leave in the Sun all - day and then taste the water, if it is plastic tasting use for something else.

*Concrete Troughs, Enamel or Stainless Steel containers are much better.

*Bore Water: Is full of all types of Minerals and unsafe, unless it is also good for Human consumption.

*Dam Water: Usually contains Minerals but gets very Alkaline when low and it is not good to allow them to continue to drink from such a dam.

Mains / Town Water: Is high in Chlorine so use high grade Dolomite, Zeolite or even better Bentonite to improve the quality. 1 x Tablespoon of these Clays to 45 Litres of water will filter out the Chlorine and Fluoride or adjust the quantity to suite the size of the container used.

Recycled Water: Is high in Bacteria and to remove from the water use Colloidal Silver at the rate of 1 x teaspoon to 1 x Litre of water.

N.B: Charcoal Filters are also good.

River and Irrigation Water: is polluted with Algae.

*Horses playing in water and not drinking could have Gut Ulceration.

*Horses suddenly drinking large amounts of water usually have Endocrine System problems.
