ULCERS -
Symptoms: Ulcers are
a Sore that will not heal usually internally in
the Lining of the Stomach
or Duodenum /
Peptic Ulcers - the gateway to the Small
Intestine just downstream from the Stomach
where they are exposed to the Digestive Enzyme
Pepsin. Men are 4 times more susceptible then Women and the risk rises
with Age and Allergies can also make you more Ulcer
- prone especially Respiratory Allergies.
Cause: Stress can create the environment for this Condition
but the real cause is often an infection by Bacteria
- Helicobacter pylori also known as Campylobacter
pylori. Fresh Cabbage
Juice assists beginning with 1 small
cup a day to eventually taking 5 small cups
a day. Can be Juiced with a stalk of Celery and
an Apple or add the Cabbage
Juice to a luke warm broth. Eat Bananas
& Yoghurt. Use whole
Grains instead of Refined Flour products.
Use a variety of fresh
Fruits & Vegetables. Mix equal parts
of the dried herbs, Slippery Elm Bark 33%, Marshmallow
Root 33%, Liquorice 33%. Dosage:
Take 2 Capsules just before meals 3 times a day. A well balanced diet is
required that is low in red meat & Spices with the majority made up mostly
of Vegetables and whole
Grains. Herbs: Anti
- Ulcer Fruit Drink:
Blend Blueberry Juice, Pineapple Juice, a
Banana and Cinnamon, Cloves & Ginger and
Honey, if desired. Garnish with a Peppermint
Sprig.
Anti -
Ulcer Fruit Cocktail: Bananas, Blueberries, ground
Cinnamon, ground
Cloves, ground Ginger,
Honey & Pineapple. Cut up the Bananas &
Pineapple and put in a serving bowl and add the Blueberries
and season to taste with the Cinnamon, Cloves
& Ginger and sweeten with Honey, if
desired. Banana: used for Gastro
- Intestinal Conditions as they soothe the
Digestive Tract and have Anti
- Ulcer effects as does raw Cabbage, Green Tea, Garlic &
Legumes. Blueberry & Bilberry: contain Anthocyanosides
that may assist with Ulcers as they stimulate the
production of Mucus to protect the Stomach
Lining from Digestive Acids.
Cabbage Juice:
used for Ulcers as it contains 2 compounds
with Anti - Ulcer activity, Glutamine
& S - Methyl - Methionine. Drink 1 quart of raw
Cabbage Juice a day.
Soup: 3 cups of water, 2 cups of shredded
Cabbage, 1 cup of chopped
Celery, 1 cup of diced Potatoes.
1/2 cup of chopped Okra,
1/2 cup of diced Onions,
1/2 cup of chopped Green
Pepper, ground Red
Pepper, ground
Ginger, ground Black
Pepper, ground Cinnamon,
ground Cloves
& dried Liquorice
Root. Put the water, Cabbage, Celery, Green
Peppers Okra, Onions & Potatoes in a pot and bring to a boil over high
heat then reduce the heat, cover and simmer until the Vegetables
are tender. Season to taste with the Black Pepper,
Cinnamon, Cloves, Ginger, Liquorice & Red Pepper. Calendula - Pot
Marigold: has Anti - Bacterial, Anti
- Viral & Immune stimulating
properties used to alleviate Chronic Stomach
inflammation /
Hypersecretory Gastritis associated with Ulcers. Tea:
use the dried herb or Tincture - 5 teaspoons of fresh Calendula
Flowers and combine with Lemon Balm & Lemon.
N.B: If you have Hay
Fever avoid using this herb as those Allergic to
Ragweed may have a reaction such as Itching or discomfort,
is so, discontinue using. Chamomile: used
as for Digestive Conditions
and Ulcers as it combines Anti - Inflammatory, Anti - Septic, Anti - Spasmodic & Stomach
soothing properties and can be combined
with Liquorice. Garlic: is a broad
spectrum Anti - Biotic. Use 9 raw
Cloves a day by chopping and mixing with
any other food such as Carrot Juice or blend 2 raw
Cloves with 1 Carrot. Gentian:
is a Bitter herb
used to aid Digestion
by stimulating the flow of Saliva &
Stomach secretions and may assist with Ulcers
combined with Ginger, Goldenseal, &
Liquorice Root. Honey Candied
Ginger: has Anti - Inflammatory activity and
contains 11 compounds that have Anti
- Ulcer effects, 6 - Shogaol, 6 - Gingerol, 8
- Shogaol, 8 - Gingerol, 10 - Gingerol, Ar - curcumene, Beta - Bisalene, 6 -
Gingediol, Betasesquiphellandrene, 6 - Gingerdione & 6 - Paradol. Honey
too has anti - Bacterial compounds and
combined with Ginger creates Synergistic
effects. Liquorice: used as an Ulcer
treatment as it contains anti - Ulcer compounds including Glycyrrhizic
Acid. N.B: Liquorice
and its Extracts are safe for normal used in moderation up to 3 cups of Tea
a day. Long term daily use for longer than 6 weeks or
ingesting excessive amounts can produce Head
Ache, Lethargy, Sodium and
water retention, excessive loss of Potassium
and High Blood
Pressure. N.B:
The side effects can be largely eliminated
by using a processed form of Liquorice, Deglycyrrhizinated
/ DGL - used to speed Ulcer healing
and also seems to protect the Digestive Lining
from Aspirin's Ulcer
promoting effects. But some of the activity of the herb is lost with the removal
of Glycyrrhizin. When making a herbal Tea add
a little Liquorice to make it sweeter and more
pleasant tasting. Meadowsweet: similar
properties to Willow Bark as a herbal Aspirin
as it contains Salicylates that act in Synergy
with Tannins, Phenolic Glycosides and its Essential
Oil to give it an Anti
- Ulcer effect. Also used for Heartburn. Myrrh:
Pineapple: similar to Cabbage,
endowed with Glutamine that has Anti
- Ulcer effects and Bromelain a Digestive
aid.
Red
Pepper: contains Capsaicin
that may assist to prevent Ulcers. Rhubarb:
used for Bleeding Ulcers. N.B: Be
careful when using as it is a powerful Laxative and
if Diarrhoea occurs cut back the amount or
discontinue using. Slippery Elm Powder
: 1 teaspoon before each meal.
Turmeric:
in 250mg Capsules taken 3 times a day it is used to relieve Ulcer
pain. Yellow Root Tincture: is an Anti
- Biotic that should assist to control Helicobacter
pylori by using a teaspoon in Juice or Tea
1 - 2 times a day. N.B: Untreated Helicobacter
pylori Virus is linked to Stomach Cancer
and must be taken seriously so see a Doctor. Drugs,
especially Anti - Inflammatory including Aspirin
are often the cause of Ulcers
and always take regular Ginger drinks if
taking Drugs.
External
Ulcers: Use a Poultice of Charcoal
& Linseeds or Cabbage
alternated with Clay or use Slippery
Elm Powder, Comfrey
and Carrot Leaves with Honey.
Herbs: Use also Bedtime Blend, Chamomile,
Comfrey, Bugle, Calendula, Lemon Balm, Mallow, Meadowsweet, Paddy's Lucerne
& Valerian. Hard Ulcers:
Chamomile. Also use Comfrey
Ointment or Brassica Cream. Internally:
Calendula & Cleavers. Compound Infusions:
Comfrey Leaves - 4 parts,
Stinging Nettles - 4, Burdock - 2,
Dandelion Leaves - 2, Echinacea - 1.
ULCERATIVE
COLITIS: Herbs: Peppermint: N.B: Do not us if
Pregnant.
URINARY
- CALCULI:
see also Stones.
Cause: an Imbalance
in the feed or Mineralised water. N.B:
Prevention is better then cure.
Horses: Symptoms: They try to pass water with little result.
N.B:
Mares do not suffer as a rule as their Ureters are
shorter and wider. Treatment:
Give Apple Cider Vinegar regularly in the diet
and this will break down the Calculi and ensure
they do not re - occur.
URINARY
TRACT - Infections:
Cause: Lack
of Vitamin A. Prevention:
Give 1 x Tablespoon of Cod Liver Oil
occasionally and it should not occur. Treatment:
Give a Vitamin A
Supplement - at least 80,000 I.U. daily for the first week, 1 x Tablespoon of
Vitamin C in
the feed daily should clear it up. If at Grass do not use
Chemical Fertilisers on the paddocks as they reduce Vitamin
A particularly. Herbs
