851 AD 102.Matudan the Dal Fiatach 28th King of Ulaid in the north - east of Ulster acknowledged 100.Malachy 1st - Mael Sechnaill as the High King of Ireland and Diarmait the Abbot of Armagh officiated at the meeting between them at Armagh.

     The first Danish Viking fleet arrived in Ireland and attacked the Norwegians in their settlement in Dublin and there was bloody war between the two groups who the Irish were to call the Dubh Gall - Black Foreigners and Finn Gall - Fair Foreigners.

852 AD The Vikings  who had their settlement at Annagassan in Co. Louth in north - east Leinster devastated Armagh in the south - east of Ulster Province.

     Both Forindan and Diarmait who had both previously been the Abbots of Armagh, died this year.

     Reforms were introduced into the monasteries from now on, which were to last for a century as Mael "Ruan" founded a monastery at Tallaght in Co. Dublin for further reform and his disciple, Duibliter founded one at Finglas- Fionn Ghlas - The Clear Stream, both of which became known as, "The Two Eyes of Ireland." Reform then spread from there to Terryglass on Loch Derg on the River Shannon and Loch Cre near Roscrea in Co. Tipperary in north - east Munster. Angus - Oengus from the Celi De - Clients of God - who were pushing reform wrote the "Calendar of Saints" - Felire Oengusso - to promote improvements in Irish life and the monasteries, but eventually the Celi De would disappear altogether.

853 AD The settlement of Dublin - The Dark Pool - was finally set up by the Viking Norwegian King, Olaf the White - Irish - Amhlaibh, which they were to basically hold onto for the next 300 years until their Teutonic Scandinavian kinsmen the Anglo - Normans were to invade in 1169 AD. He proclaimed himself the King of Dublin - Dubh Linn, & Waterford - Vaethrford - Vadrefjord, which was another of their settlements situated on the River Suir in south - east Munster and to ensure his position he defeated the Danes - Dubh Gall in a great sea battle.

854 AD 106.Toole - Tuathal aka mac 106.Mael "Brigte" - Devotee of St. Brigid - the Cu Corb Ui Dunlainge Ui Muiredaig 28th King of Leinster, died, who was the son of 105.Murray - Muiredach, one of the 2 sons of 104.Bran "Ardchenn" the previous 21st King of Leinster. His male line was to be carried forward by his son, 107.Downing - Dunlaing the future 30th King of Leinster.

     100.Malachy 1st - Mael "Sechnaill" the Southern Ui Niaill Clann Cholmain 162nd High King of Ireland gained hostages from Munster Province.

856 AD 106.Carroll - Cerball the Heremonian Connla King of Ossory allied with Imhar the Chief of the Viking Norse and their combined force was composed of 6400 warriors and they defeated the Southern Ui Niaill Cenel Fiachach Sept and their ally the Gall Gaedhil - Dano - Irish of Leath Cuinn at Aradh Tire. 

857 AD Olaf the White - Amhlaibh, Imhar and 106.Carroll - Cerball the Heremonian Connla King of Ossory took a great army into Meath in north - east Leinster against the Southern Ui Niaill. 

857 AD 102.Matudan from the Dal Fiatach who was the 28th King of Ulaid, died, who was a son of 101.Muiredach the previous 27th King of Ulaid descended from 90.Forgg Mac Dallain through 95.Mael "Cobo" the 13th King of Ulaid. This was the end of his male line to the Kingship but it was still to be carried forward by his father's brother,101.Aed through his three sons and four grandsons.  

      101.Lethlobar the Irian 29th King of the Dal nAraidi became the 29th King of Ulaid, who was a son of 100.Lynch - Loingsech, a son of 99.Tommaltach the previous 23rd King of Ulaid descended from 95.Fiachnae "Lurgan the 9th King of Ulaid, descended from 91.Coelub, one of the 2 sons of 90.Crond "Ba Drui."

858 AD The Ui Niaill invaded and submitted Munster Province with a great force under 100.Malachy 1st - Mael Sechnaill - the Southern Ui Niall Clann Cholmain 162nd High King of Ireland and he was the first to take hostages from his Gaelic kinsmen in Munster, which was also intended to send a message to 106.Carroll - Cerball the Heremonian Connla  King of Ossory in south - west Leinster who also eventually submitted, which prevented the Heremonian Cu Corb Ui Dunlainge Septs from gaining authority there.  

859 AD 104.Mael "Gualae" the 26th Chaisil King of Cashel - Munster, died, who was one of the 2 sons of 102.Donngal, a son of 101,Tnuthgal the previous 22nd King of Munster descended from 96.Colgu the 15th King of Munster, one of the 2 sons of 95.Failbhe "Fland, the 11th King of Munster descended from 89.Nad "Froich," one of the 7 sons of 89.Conall "Corc."

       99.Cenn "Faelad" from the Eoghanacht Chaisil - Airthir Chliach Sept became the 27th King of Cashel - Munster, who was a son of 98.Murrough - Murchad one of the 2 sons of 97.Mugthigern, the son of 96.Kelly - Ceallach, the son of 95.Crundmael, the son of 94.Cormac "Sriabderg," one of the 2 sons of 93.Criffan - Crimthann "Airthir Chliach" the direct ancestor of the Airthir Chliach Sept. He was a son of 92.Eochaid the Chaisil 4th King of Munster, who was a son of 91.Angus mac Nad Froich the grandson of 89.Conall "Corc."

     99.Cenn "Faelad" the 27th King of Munster ceded the over lordship of the territory of the Heremonian Connla kingdom of Ossory in south - west  Leinster in Mogha's Half - to Tara with the Abbot of Armagh attending the Assembly, which saw them acknowledge 100.Malachy 1st - Mael Sechnaill the Southern Ui Niaill Clann Cholmain 162nd King of Ireland as superior.                                                                                        

860 AD The Vikings attacked the Heremonian Connla kingdom of Ossory in the south - west of Leinster from out of their settlement at Waterford on the south - east coast of Munster Province, which was now under the protection of 100.Malachy 1st the Southern Ui Niall 162nd King of Ireland. 

     Celtic Crosses of granite were erected at Ullard, Graiguenamanagh, Castledermot, Newtown and St. Mullins in Co. Kilkenny in the south - west of Leinster.

         96.Kenneth - Cinaed mac Ailpine, died, as the King of the Dal Riada Scottii who had been able to take the stronghold of the Scythian Picts at Fortria in Perthshire in the Highlands of Alba - Scotland and unite all the Celts in Albany. His grandmother had been a sister to Unuist the King of the Celtic Picts there who quite opposite to the Gaelic Celts, inaugurated their kings from the female line. His father, 95.Ailpin had claimed this kingship right, because of his mother before his death in battle in 843 AD and this had gone someway to enable 96.Kenneth to become the Gaelic King of the Scots & Picts in Albany. 96.Kenneth mac Ailpine was interred on the Holy Island of Iona the main religious centre at that time of the Kindred of 91.Columba - Columbcille - The Dove of the Church.    

     The Viking Norse in Dublin on the coast in mid - east Leinster allied with 99.Aedh "Findliath" the Northern Ui Niall Cenel nEogain 25th King of Ailech, who was also the son - in - law of 100.Malchy 1st - Mael Sechnall the 162nd King of Ireland to try and gain the Ui Niall Kingship of Ireland from him as during this century many of the Vikings became involved in the Irish dynastic struggles.
