Galway in the south - west of the Connacht Province on the 12th of July,1691 AD after nearly defeating their forces there in one of the most decisive battles in Irish History. One of his officers then severed his head and rode day and night until he reached the Family burial ground on the Island of Devenish / Daimhinis (Ox Island) in Loch Erne 3 miles north of Enniskillen, which was also connected with St. Molaisse who founded the monastery there in the 6th Century AD. There is a Maguire tomb in the remains of the Great Church, which was a Culdee (Clients of God) Priory with the ruins of St. Mary's Abbey higher up the hill. A Cross was erected in more modern times at Aughrim to commemorate all those Irish who were killed at Aughrim by the "foreign" forces of William of Orange. He was the father of; *
