He was born at Gartan just 4 mile from Glenveagh Castle in Tir Conaill - The Land of 88.Conall - now known as Donegal - Dun na Gall - the Fort of the Strangers in Co. Donegal - North West Ulster. The Stone of Raith Cno’on on which he used to rest is still in existence today and he was baptised in the ancient church there, which is now in ruins at Temple Douglas - Dughlaise - The Church of the Dark Stream - situated on the River Glaslagh. His mother, Eithne was descended from the Heremonian Cu Corb Kings of Leinster and he was reared at Kilmacrenan where his fosterers were the O Freels and he attended St. Finnan’s school at Moville on Loch Foyle. The Southern Ui Niaill was to gain the Plain of Mide - Midlands from the Cu Corb Ui Failge Sept altogether where the boundary had been the bog - lands of Co. Offaly & Co. Kildare for centuries.

Over lordship created a great convolution among the Septs because of the amalgamation and sharing now occurring between all of the particular Clans throughout Erinn. 520 AD The "Golden Age" of the Irish monasteries had really began when St. Finnian founded the monastery at Clonard from which the Irish monks were to carry the Christian message back to Europe, which was to last until the year 800 AD. St. Kevin who was of aristocratic Gaelic descent founded Glendalough in Co. Wicklow - Southern Leinster were the land was given to him by the Cu Corb Leinster King O Toole who himself was later buried there in the Reefert - Refeart Church.
