130 BC - 100 BC
72.Eochy "Aireamh - The Ploughman the
Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh 93rd King of Tara - Erinn had
3 sons, and several daughters one of whom was
73.Medb - Maeve who had
initially married
Conor mac Nessa the Irian King of Ulster
who she had found unbearable and she
had then retuned home to her father. At that time he was trying to put down a rebellion
being carried out by
his own 3 sons and they fought a battle at
Ath Cumair,
a ford, near Mullingar in Co.
Westmeath in the north - west of
what was to become the
Midlands -
Mide - Northern Leinster,
and his 3 sons were killed. The Septs in the
territory there in Sreng's Fifth, now known as the
Connacht Province, then
rebelled against him also, so he set up his
daughter,
73.Maeve as the
Queen
of that territory there in
Connacht
to overcome their opposition by re - marrying her to
Ailill the aged
King there.
He was a son of
Conrach who had also
been the King there before him who had built the royal residence of
Rath Cruachan near Garrick on the River Shannon
in the east in the territory that is now Co. Roscommon and not long after their marriage
the aged
Ailill
died.
73.Maeve
now a young widow and a very independent
Queen
of the territory there in
Connacht in her own
right went looking for her
own husband in
Southern Leinster
where
Ross
"Ruadh" -
of Red Complexion was the King there
at Naas in Co. Kildare in
Central Southern Leinster, the
ancient residence of the Heremonian
Kings of Leinster,
which was also a great meeting place for Assemblies
- Oenachs. She selected
Ross "Ruadh's" younger son, who was also known as
Ailill who became her
consort in Connacht
and the marriage was
fruitful and she produced many sons and one daughter to
the younger
Ailill.
72.Eochy "Feidlech - Aireamh"
had ruled as the Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh 93rd King of
Tara - Erinn for 12
years and was killed at
Tara after previously
dividing the kingdom of
Ireland back
into Provinces, and his death was to
lead on to the slaughter of his own people. He was a son of 71.Fionn descended from
67.Enda - Eanna "Aigneach" the previous
84th King of Tara - Erinn and therefore of
37.Heremon.
Cuchulainn - Chu "Chulaind," who was the archetype of the
Red Hand Warriors of Ulster was
not from the Ulster Province but was born to the
south of there at
New Grange -
Bruig na Boinne at the foot of
Dundalk - Dun Dealgan in the territory that was to
become the
Midlands - Mide -
Northern Leinster
in Co. Louth
in the north - east below
Ulster. His
original name was Setanta - Setantae
- One who has knowledge of roads and ways - and his
mother was Deichtire - Dectera an
Ulster
Princess whose husband was Sualtam
- Sualtach
a sub - king of
Ulster, who was a son of
Roech.
Deichtire was a sister to Conor
mac Nessa the King of Ulster
whose life Cuchulainn would later save in battle and
Morann
the Druid had predicted he would become
great and famous and his
praise would be in the mouths of all men. He would later be known as -
The
Guardian of the Sacred Land
-
and the Hero of the Red Branch Knights
of Ulster.
Cuchulainn at 5
years of age was still living with his mother when he was sent off to the Royal Court to be educated and trained
with the other boy warriors of Eamhain Macha
- Armagh
and was able to easily dominate the group because of his
outstanding
natural abilities. At 7
years of age he had already been instructed in the use of arms and was to become
the possessor of the singing sword known as - The Hard - Headed
-
"Cruaidin
Cailidcheann." When he was 8
year of age he journeyed on
his own to see his uncle, Conor
mac Nessa
the King of Ulster, who was at the fortress of
Culann the King’s
smith and the young
Setanta was confronted by his large hound who attacked him
and who he was able to kill
with his sling. He then told Culann that he himself would
replace the hound and act as his own personal body guard
until he could find another one to replace it, and so his name was changed at that time to Cuchulainn
-
"The Hound of
Culann." Setanta and his mother
were against the name change but Cathbad
the Druid prevailed. Cuchulainn on reaching
17 years of age had been fully educated and was given a spear, a shield, a
javelin and a sword and was to establish his own fortress at Dundalk in
Co. Louth
in the north - east of
Northern Leinster, which had a commanding position
over the Ulster Gap and
he could become
very hot tempered and furious
in his manner when he came under the pressure of battle conditions.
Cuchulainn
was to continue his training at Eighter in Co. Cavan
in Southern Ulster.
64.Fergus - Fearghus
mac Roigh, the previous
Irian King of Ulster, was a son of
another
63.Ros "Ruadh," and had been
named for his mother, Roich, and was a grandson of
62.Rory "Mor," and a
Knight of the Red Branch
(Craobh Rua) Warriors of
Ulster. After the treacherous deaths of the 3
sons of Uisneach brought about at the
direction of Conor mac
Nessa the present King of
Ulster,
and
for whose safety he had gone guarantee, he left the Ulster
Province and
went to the Connacht Province.
He was well received there by 73.Maeve and
the younger
Ailill, the
son of the
King of
Leinster.
(Ailill was to be eventually killed by
Lewy - Lughaidh
his
brother because of jealousy.) Cormac
"Conloingeas," the son of Conor mac Nessa had
assisted 64.Fergus mac Roigh
after the treachery and he too had gone to
Connacht to escape his
father's wrath.
Eventually
73.Maeve the Queen of
Connacht and the younger
Ailill came into dispute over who had the
most wealth and prior to this one
of 73.Maeve’s bull calves
who was truly outstanding had joined in with
Ailill’s herd where he
became
known as the "White Horned Bull" -
Finn Bheannach - so she ordered her chief courier,
Mac
Roth to tell her were she could secure such a bull
for herself that would be more then equal to Ailill's
"White Horned Bull" in
Ireland.
He told her Daire the
son of Fachtna in
Cooley - Cualgne in
the Ulster
Province
had
the best bull known as the "Brown Bull of Cooley" -
Donn Chulaigne - so she instructed him to go and get him as a
loan for one year and
she would return him with 50 heifers. If the people there
objected to him lending
the bull then he could come with the bull himself and she would give him as much
territory as he now has in
Ulster at Magh Ai
- "The Plain of Roscommon"
in the Connacht Province,
a chariot worth thrice seven cumals - 63 cows and friendship. He went to see
Daire mac Fachtnea who accepted the terms but one of the
9 couriers with him ran off at
the mouth and said that he had to agree or else and Daire on hearing this changed his
mind and when Mac Roth
advised 73.Maeve of what had happened she decided instead
to force him to carry out her request. Although
Fidelma - Fedelm the prophetess told her that her
expedition against Ulster would be defeated together
with all of her sons and the 7 sons of
Maghach she called on
the men
from the
Munster
Province
and the
Leinster
Province
to join with her to seek revenge on Ulster
for all of their old transgressions. By this time there were
Ulstermen also in her service
who had gone into exile for what
Conor
mac Nessa
had done to the 3 sons of Uisneach. There were
1500 in
all under 64.Fergus
mac Roigh
and Conor mac Nessa's own son,
Cormac
"Conloingeas" -
aka - the Exile - and they all met at Cruachan
in Co. Roscommon in the east of
Connacht under the leadership of
73.Maeve and crossed the River Shannon at Athlone and marched through
Meath - Midlands to Kells near the
border of Co. Louth
in the north - east of Northern Leinster
were she set up their camp, and Ailill
and their daughter, 74.Finnabair
-
of the Fair Brow - was with them also. (During feasting
73.Maeve
secretly promised
the hand of her daughter 74.Finnabair in marriage to all of her
Champions individually.) At
this time,
Conor mac Nessa the
Irian King of
Ulster
and his warriors at Emania
- Armagh
were not with it physically and mentally as they were suffering from some
psychological disability or malaise. The defence of
Ulster was all to be left up to the 17 year - old
warrior,
Cuchulainn, who did not suffer from their
sickness and who acted as
Conor mac Nessa's guardian in this
particular territory at the border, which was also where
the "Brown
Bull of Cooley" was at pasture. When the
Connacht forces approached, Cuchulainn
demanded single combat under the Irish
Celtic Code of Practice -
Fir Comhlainn - and that they were not to advance any further
until they had individually overcome him. 73.Maeve
inquired from the Ulstermen
in her army who this young brave warrior was and they advised her of his previous
youthful exploits and she then agreed with Cuchulainn that he was to go up
against one of her
Champions each day at the ford on the border until Spring if he could
physically manage to continue to survive the conflicts.
He then entered into a series of
single combats in which he was
victorious every time including against
Ferdia, who had been his previous companion in
Ulster, on the 4th day, who he carried back across
the stream, and until
73.Maeve
ran out of patience and
decided she could wait no longer and proceeded on into
Co. Louth anyway, with
her army burning and ravaging right up to
Conor mac Nessa's palace at
Emania
- Armagh.
She took physical possession
of the "Brown Bull of Cooley" and returned into
Meath, and camped at Clarecastle
-
Clartha - in Co. Westmeath
in the north - west
of
Leinster
while making her way back to
Connacht. Meanwhile,
Conor
mac Nessa and his Ulster
Warriors
recovered from their malaise and he summoned all his Chiefs to go after
73.Maeve’s forces and they
surrounded her camp and she was defeated.
N.B:
Erc
was a son of Conor mac Nessa's
daughter, Felimy
- Fedelmid
"Nuachruthac" - of the Ever
New Form - and of Cairbre "Niafear"
the King of Tara - Erinn?
Deichtine the daughter of
Conor acted as Conor's charioteer.
Conor's sword was known as
"Gorm Glas."
Later when
Conor mac Nessa the King of
Ulster was dying he summoned his son, Cormac
"Conloingeas" to come home to be King and although
he was warned by a girl along the way of treachery he was killed by the men of
Connacht Province.
Cuchulainn went with his uncle,
Conor mac Nessa the King
of Ulster to the Isle of Man where they defeated the
Manx Army.
Curoi, the son of
Daire, the King of
West Munster, who had his fortress 2000' up on the mountain at
Caher Conree - the Fort of Curoi, which was also
known as "The
Fort of the Champion of the Battlefield" at Camp in Co.
Kerry in the south - west of the Munster Province went with them. As a reward
Conor mac Nessa
gave
Curoi, Blanaid, the daughter of the
King of Man for a reward to be his wife,
but Cuchulainn had previously made personal plans of
his own with her and she had returned his advances and he was then desperate to
get her back. On returning
to Ireland
he followed Curoi and his group into the
Munster Province and attacked him on his way
home to Co. Kerry at Sallywood
- Solloghod in Co. Tipperary
in the north - east of Munster where
Curoi was able to defeat him. In
retaliation for the attack Curoi cut off Cuchulainn’s hair and left
him there tied up until Laogh mac Rian came along and released him.
Now embarrassed by
his appearance he had to hide out for 12 months until his long hair grew back to it’s
original length and he then went looking for Blanaid who
advised him to go back to
Ulster and
bring back his own warriors to assist him in rescuing her and also wait for
her signal when the time
was right. Laeg acted as the charioteer for
Cuchulainjn.
72.Eochy
- Eochaidh
"Aireamh" aka "Fedlech"
the previous Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh 93rd King of Tara - Erinn
had previously produced a daughter from his own
daughter, 73.Ess, and he
had wanted to discard the child and gave her to his men to
dispose of but they could not and instead placed her
in a kennel belonging to a calf - herdsman where she was
fostered and became known as
Mess "Buachalla" - The Cowherd's Foster Child.
The carer was a
subject of Eterscel who was
then the
great - grandson of Iar the previous King of Tara - Erinn.
When
Eterscel became the 95th King of Tara - Erinn in his own right he was childless and
as the girl was growing up some of his householders were
to see her out and about and that she had become a beautiful maiden and advised him of
this. He had previously been informed by his Druids that a woman of
unknown pedigree would bear him a son and he sent
for her and she bore him a son who she raised in secret who
was to become
Conaire "Mor" a future
King of Tara - Ireland. He was to be later reared
by Donn "Desa"
a King of Leinster and their Champion along with
3 of his sons, of namely
Fer "Le,"
Fer "Gair" & Fer "Rogain,"
who were wild and rambunctious
and they all grew up sharing their life together. After King Eterscel was to be
killed in battle a Tarbh Feis was held where a bull was
killed and eaten to discover
who would be the new King as a Druid consumed
the meat and drunk a broth of the meat and whoever he would then see in his sleep was
to be the one who he would proclaim as the
future
King of Tara - Ireland. During his sleep on this occasion he dreamt of a
naked man travelling on the road to Tara
in a chariot with a
stone in a sling.
110 BC
80.Nuadhas
"Neacht"
the Heremonian Ui Laoghaire King of
Leinster
became
and the
96th King of Tara - Erinn
after he
had
killed Eterscel - Eidirsceal the 95th King of Tara - Erinn at Ailenn near Kilcullen in
Co. Kildare
in
Southern Central
Leinster and it had been
12 generations since his
Ui Laoghaire
direct male line ancestor
68.Laoghaire "Lorc" had been the
68th King of Tara - Erinn.
He was a son of
79.Setna
- Sedna
"Silhbhaic"
who had also constructed the
royal fortress
there at
Allan
-
Rath Alinne,
who had been the
son of
78.Lewy - Lughaidh who was to
be the ancestor of
86.Cu "Corb" the direct
ancestor of all the future
Ui Laoghaire Cu Corb
Kings of Leinster
whose
territory was to be on the northern side of the River
Barrow from Drogheda in Co. Louth
in
the north - east of
Northern
Leinster down to
Co. Wicklow
in
the south - east of
Southern Leinster.
80.Nuadhas "Neacht" was
to be the father of
81.Baoisgne
- Baiscni, the
direct ancestor of the Clann Baoisgne, the father of
82.Eltan,
the father of
83.Snaelt, the father
of
85.Trenmor, the father
of 86.Coole
- Cumhall
whose mother, Baine, was a daughter of
Scal the King of Sacsa - (She was also to be the mother of 79.Felim
"Reachtmar," the future
108th King of Tara - Ireland
the ancestor of the
Heremonian Dal Cuinn
& Desies Septs)
In turn
86.Coole's son would be come
87.Fionn mac Cumhaill
- Finn mac Coole - the future
leader of the
Heremonian
Fianna Warriors
in the
3rd Century AD, the father of
84.Oisin the celebrated poet
and Fianna
Warrior.
His daughter,
84.Samer
- Samhair
was to marry
85.Cormac
"Cass"
the future Heberian
2nd King of
Munster
the direct ancestor of
the Dal gCais - Dalcassians
in
Thomond - Northern
Munster.
The
ancient royal fortress of
Naas
in
Co. Kildare in
Southern
Leinster was either named after
the wife of Lugh,
or 80.Nuadhas "Neacht,"
whose
other son
*81.Fergus
“Fairge”
would become the next link to
86.Cu "Corb"
the
direct ancestor of the
Cu Corb Kings of
Leinster.
80.Nuadhas "Neacht" was
to be killed by
Conaire
"Mor,"
the son of Eidirsceal
- Eterscel,
the previous 95th King of Tara - Erinn.
When the time came to choose the new King, Conaire "Mor" and his
3 foster - brothers, the sons of Donn "Desa," were all summoned to the
bull - feast but as the 3 brothers were totally engaged in games on the Liffey Plain, Conaire "Mor"
had to proceed on his own in his own chariot towards Dublin leaving his foster - brothers
to carry on with their own particular pursuits. Naked and with his
sling he headed for
Tara, and on the way there was stopped by 3 Kings who gave him
aristocratic clothes to put on and on his arrival at Tara he was to be declared the new
King of Tara - Erinn.
Although many complicated
taboos - prohibitions - known as geasa - were placed on him there was to be great peace in Ireland during his
rule until he was to be forced to break these geasas.
108 BC
Conaire
"Mor,"
became the 97th King of Tara -
Erinn, who was a son of
Eterscel - Eidirsceal,
the previous 95th King of Tara -
Erinn and his mother was Mess "Buachalla," a
daughter of
73.Ess,
a daughter of
72.Eochy - Eochaidh "Aireamh"
aka "Fedlech" the previous
Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh 93rd King of Tara - Erinn.
During his reign Conaire "Mor" was to be subjected to a whole series of prohibitions -
geasa - which if broken could
bring rejection, shame and painful death, and he also had a
singing sword.
His foster - brothers the 3 sons of
Donn "Desa" now
began to carry out
raids throughout the districts and Conaire "Mor" now the 97th King of Tara
- Erinn was forced to reprimand them and while doing this he was to spare
their lives while condemning their fellow - offenders to death, breaking one of
his own geasas - prohibitions. He sent them off into exile instead into
Alba -
Scotland where
they still carried
on with their mischief there and became pirates on
the Irish seas while waiting for something to happen to Conaire "Mor"
so they could return to Ireland. While there they joined
up with Ingcel - of the One Eye, who was a son of the
King
of Briton -
Albion, who
had also been banned there by his father for similar
misconduct and they combined their forces and killed Ingcel
's father and mother and his 7 brothers after first
also carrying out attacks in
Briton. They then decided to venture
to to Ireland
to do the same there and landed at Turvey Bay -
Tuirbhe
near Malahide on the coast of
Co. Dublin in mid - eastern
Southern
Leinster where they ravaged the country towards Tara in
Co. Meath
in the east of Northern
Leinster. Conaire "Mor" was also returning
to Tara at this time
from
Northern Munster were he had settled a
dispute between the 2 Coirpres - Cairbres who were also his foster - brothers, which
broke another of the geasas previously placed on him and he had also stayed
5 nights with each of
them, breaking another of his geasas. On entering
Meath
he could see the country surrounding there
was on fire and that there was trouble brewing so he headed back to
Co.
Dublin going right - handed around Tara - and left - handed
around Brega, again breaking 2 more of his original
geasas and along the way unknowingly, he once again broke another by hunting the beasts of
Cerna.
Conaire "Mor" and his followers then headed south towards Da Dherga's
hostel on the River Dodder - Bothar na
Bruigne
- The Road of the Court - near Tallaght in Co.
Dublin were Mac
Cecht his Champion went ahead to ensure everything was
O.K. Now greatly concerned, Conaire "Mor" had his Druid,
Fer Caille sacrifice a pig to foretell the future, who then advised him of what was to
come including the destruction of the hostel and his future demise. Meanwhile the
attackers under the direction of Ingcel continued to
ravage the country around Brega in the
east
of
Meath and
then returned to their ships going on to the Hill of Howth -
Beann Edair - where they decided to
send 2 of the sons of Donn "Desa," to go on shore and find out where Conaire "Mor" was staying and they
told them he was at Da Dherga's hostel. They then went to the south of the River Liffey mouth
and crossed the Dublin
Mountains and surrounded the hostel, which they were then able to
set on fire 3 times and
Conaire "Mor" and his followers were forced to use up all of the drinking water in the building
while trying to put out the flames.
Conaire "Mor" eventually became very thirsty and Mac Cecht
his Champion, set out to get him fresh water
to drink and was to return just
in time to see Conaire "Mor"
being physically attacked by 2 men who he was able to kill, and then tried to give Conaire "Mor" a
drink to sustain his life force but it was too late. He then set out after the other
5
attackers who were by then escaping although 9 of his
own comrades had already been slain. When the great warrior,
68.Conall
"Cernach" - of the Victories arrived
on the scene, who supported Conaire "Mor," it was
all over and he had to return to his father,
67.Aimhirgin
"Larghiunach" who scolded
him for still being
alive himself and leaving Conaire "Mor" dead among his enemies.
